Senior Night (or day) is a tradition where the senior boys are honored at the last home game of the season. Every year that we've been involved with high school soccer the ceremony has been during a Saturday afternoon game but it didn't work out that way this year. It was chilly and then we had a misty rain for about an hour during the first half. It was the first time I've had to break out my gloves so far this year. It was a nice evening though and we were so proud to be presented on the field with Robbie before the game. I am hoping to get some of the photos the photographer posts of us on the field. The photographer took a picture of Bob and I alone...we looked so cute (I think) in our matching outfits :)
Me and Robbie after the game. My hair
was so curly before the weather changed.
Robbie's special parking space at the game.
Bob helping put up the collages we soccer moms made last weekend. Had to cover them in plastic due to the misty rain. Bob is sporting his new, red Chaps sweater vest and coordinating tie. (I love Chaps clothing for men at Kohl's!)
All the collages up and ready. It is fun to look at all the pictures of the boys from years past and present. We could put up any pictures we wanted to but Robbie didn't want any baby pics and wanted mostly just soccer pictures although he did allow me to put a beach and snowboarding one on his collage. I did slip in a baby picture for the program though.
Robbie and Kaylyn after the game. Being a cheerleader, she was also involved in the ceremony by helping hold the balloon arches we walked under for the Senior ceremony. We just LOVE little Kaylyn!!
You'll have to click to see this better, but in the middle of the picture is the brick we had made honoring Robbie. It is a fundraiser for the soccer program and they will continue to build on this project and hope to have a sidewalk extend all the way down the field in front of the bleachers. Right now the bricks are just in front of the concession stand area.
After the game there was a meal for players and their families. They kept it simple by just having pizza, breadsticks and any appetizers or desserts families wanted to bring. It was late so the after-game-party was more abbreviated than years past. Everything was really nice and the parents did a good job setting up tents and decorating for the meal but I would have preferred to have it on a Saturday or an evening when the game could be played at an earlier time. I don't really like to eat dinner at 9:45 and everyone was tired from either being in school or working all day so pretty much ate, talked a little bit then left.
The boys had to give a short bio about their years playing on the team, what they are involved in and what their future plans are. The announcer read the information as each player walked the field with his parents. It was a little difficult to hear all of the bios when we were walking out onto the field but I did hear part of Robbie's and he made up some of the activities he was involved in!! Too funny! He said he was in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, but really isn't. I about died. He said one of his favorite memories of playing soccer is chasing soccer balls into the cornfield during practice. Lovely. I couldn't hear the rest of it but am hoping to get a copy of the bio and will post on here. He is such a mess!! His future plans are to attend college and study for Physical Therapy and/or Athletic Training (now those are true).
