Things I Do When I Get Off Work
You know how my only New Year's resolution was to spend more time doing things I want to do?
Well, I'm doing that. I've gardened for hours just because I wanted to, walked nearly every day for the past month and baked a lot of homemade granola.
And another thing I did one afternoon when I got off of work was to carefully place my gnome door and window under our big tree in the backyard. I didn't want to stop there so I also made a small rock path leading up to the door; you know, so the gnomes don't have to get their feet muddy when they come home. ha ha!
If you click to enlarge the picture some you'll see that the sign on the door says, "There's no place like gnome." Robbie gave me this door and window set for Christmast this past year. I've planted a couple sprigs of Lily of the Valley near the pathway (starts from my mother-in-law from her garden) and some other lilies around the tree. Isn't it just the cutest?

Woo Hoo!!!!!
Guess what I'll be doing next Saturday night at 8:00?? Watching the Kansas Jayhawks play in the Final Four!!! Oh, and I hope Louisville beats the crap out of UK. LOL

An Actual Event
(Couple weeks ago; phone rings here at this old house and on the other end is Robbie)
Robbie: Mom, me and Kaylyn are at the mall and when we came out and tried to start the Jeep it wouldn't start.
Me: (after asking a few questions about any noises the Jeep might be making, etc. and him explaining it to me..) Okay, Bob will be there in a few minutes so just stay outside in the parking lot.
Robbie: Well, it's hot outside so we're going to go back in and walk around.
Me: No! You need to stay outside to be there when Bob arrives and help him. Kaylyn can go back inside but you stay where you are.
Of note: This was in early March when it was warm for this time of year but certainly not "hot".
Time goes by and Bob returns home a lot quicker than I thought he would--like in less than 20 minutes. He's in my car; no sign of the Jeep or the kids.
Me: Well, what happened? (AAA couldn't have gotten there to tow the Jeep that quickly)
Bob: When I got there I got out the jumper cables, etc etc etc. and it still wouldn't start...
Me: (getting a sick feeling in my stomach that we were about to be hit with a very big repair bill and still wondering where the Jeep and the kids where at) So where is the Jeep now?
Bob: Well, when I got to trying to figure things out I realized that Robbie hadn't put the Jeep in 'park' when he turned off the ignition at the mall and it won't start unless the vehicle is in 'park'. Once I put it in the correct gear it started right up.
Me: (relieved!) Oh, okay. Well that's good news!
Robbie is a true blond. Ha ha!

Midweek Stuff
So who is ready for the big IU/UK game this Friday night? It's going to be a big basketball night as Kansas also plays. GO JAYHAWKS!!!! We here at this old house are gearing up for an exciting evening!! We cannot get enough March Madness in our system these days.
I've been spending lots of time in the yard and walking in the evenings. The weather has been so nice to spend time outdoors but does this mean it will be 100 outside in June? You know, I'm a fair weather girl and if that happens I guess I'll be spending the summer indoors. Our trees are blooming and I've done a lot of work out in the back garden. I'm 40% done with the herb garden area in that we have almost all the existing flowers dug up and placed elsewhere. I still have a lot to dig up and replant; I cannot seem to get rid of some of my lilies so I keep finding new places to tuck them away.
I got my compost going again now that it is warm. I noticed there are some plants growing out the side of it. ha ha! I think maybe it's from the pumpkin I threw in there last fall. I'm going to be careful when I turn it so I can get that plant out and put is somewhere to grow. So funny! I was afraid this might happen but that's okay. I cannot bring myself to kill a plant; except nasty weeds.
We do not have our new vehicle yet. Now we're told there is no way we'll have it within the next two weeks when we were just told a week or so ago it might be in by the 15th. Oh well, this just means another month without a car payment. It's nice not having any car payments.
Robbie had his first outdoor soccer game last weekend. They won 3-2. The weather got a little dicey so after they played for 5 minutes the remainder of the game was postponed for an hour while two storm fronts moved through. It was fun watching him play again and our team did an okay job without having played together for nearly a year. The new coach used to coach teams at two of our local universities and looks like Mr. Clean. I'll try to snap a picture of him at this weekend's game and post it on here.

Friday Stuff
I've probably had plenty to blog about this week but the days have gone by so fast that I haven't had time to be on the computer very much. Right now, at the beginning of March Madness my evenings are spent watching games. Before dark I have been outside gardening. I think I've worked out in the yard about 8 hours this week and LOVED every minute of it. I've been digging up plants and relocating them, weeding, picking up leaves and planning for my herb garden. I'm hoping to get that area ready this weekend and will plant seeds and baby plants after Spring Break. My compost pile did well this past winter so in a few weeks I plan on using that soil in my garden. I am also wanting to create a "natural fence" between our yard and the new neighbor. I dug up some Maiden Grass yesterday and used it to start the "fence". I also bought a tree and want to get more tall grass and another burning bush for that area. It'll give us a little more backyard privacy.
I met with Robbie's teacher advocate this week to help him plan his senior classes. Can you believe that?? He is interested in athletic training or being a chiropractor at this point. We talked him into changing some of his gym classes next year to classes where he might get a taste of what he'll have to take in college to earn one of those degrees. ie. anatomy, sports medicine, medical terminology. We told him if he does well in those courses and thinks he might want to learn more then he will have a starting foundation for courses he will have to take in college.
Bob's been working like crazy for nearly a month now. He's about ready to drop so it will be nice when this project gets done so he can go back to regular hours. I'll just put it like this--he doesn't work for a family friendly business owner. Thank goodness I do!
I'll end this post with a couple pictures of Robbie and Lil Missy. My camera didn't do well in this first photo with red eye reduction. I tried to fix it myself and, well, you see how it turned out. Regardless, Lil Missy is just adorable even with red eyes in this semi blurry photo. This was taken prior to a recent basketball game.

Prom?
Robbie asked his girlfriend to the prom recently. He didn't just want to ask her a question; he wanted to do something original. He's kind of like me. He totally came up with this idea on his own....bake a cake and cut letters out of the cake to spell out "Prom?" I helped him bake the cake and he made templates for the letters.
He decorated the cake letters with chocolate buttercream and sprinkles.
We weren't around when he presented it to her but he said she squealed in delight when he showed up at her door carrying the question. Ahhh, young love.

More Ella

Last Saturday I spent the night at the hospital with Kristi and baby Ella. Twelve hours seemed to fly by when helping take care of this little one and her mama! We didn't get much sleep but it sure was fun helping care for a newborn. Did you know the newborn stage is my favorite baby age? I just love it when they are this little.
I arrived in my comfy clothes with blanket, pillow, camera and toothbrush in my bag and settled in for the night. I think we got 3-4 hours of sleep between the nurses bringing Ella in to nurse. Each time we thought she was finished eating and falling asleep she would cry when I picked her up from the warmth of her mama's chest. I'm sure if her memory were that long, Ella would know me as the mean girl who kept tearing her away from the milk wagon and the person who was frequently fidgeting with her clothes to change her diaper. She has a very good set of lungs for such a little one.

Introducing: Ella Marie
Ella Marie was born on March 2, 2012 at 3:04 pm after the storms moved through the area. She was originally scheduled to be born at 2:00 but the storm warnings postponed her arrival a little bit. All went well and baby Ella and her mommy are doing just fine! Isn't that little hat so cute? She was also swaddled in an actual swaddling wrap with a zipper versus those silly thin little blankets they try to wrap the baby in (that never stay swaddled). Hospitals have come a long way since I had a baby!
She weighs 7# 6oz and is 19" long. She has some dark hair but isn't the monkey baby we thought she might be. Or as Kristi said "chimpanzee hair." LOL She's just a tiny little thing!

I made strawberry/vanilla swirl cupcakes to help celebrate Ella's arrival...you can't have a birth-day without cake, right?
And what else did I have to do on Thursday night anyway :) I found these cute cupcake holders and picks at Walmart in the Easter section.
PINK, PINK, PINK!!!
As far as the storms were concerned, I didn't feel like we got hit that hard here at this old house. Yes, it got dark, windy and rainy but all the hype they put on tv makes it seem much worse. Thankfully it wasn't. Our neighborhood fared just fine and I only saw small limbs down in other parts of town. We went over to a neighbor's house with a deeper basement and stayed there for about an hour while the cats stayed home locked up in a secure place. Not lovin' it. Lucas and Fluffy hissed at me like I was Satan as I put them in their safe place. Sheeba got the privilege of having the pet carrier all to herself but she didn't like that much. They seem to have forgiven now though.

Another Teenager in the Family
Our oldest niece, Morgan, just turned 13 this week. I have a difficult time keeping up with everyone's ages and actually thought she was going to be 12. Menopause is my excuse. She certainly doesn't look 12. She is tall, thin and graceful-looking, I think. And she loves makeup!
She had a yummy cake from Donut Bank!
Such a pretty girl! I see lots of boyfriends in her future and maybe my brother turning all redneck and sitting on the front porch with a rifle when she goes out on her first date. LOL!!
